Bottom of the Toolbox

Introduction Every faction has its top performers and Bayou is no exception. When people think Bayou models like Brin, Gracie, Lucky Emissary, Bokors, Rami and Merris come to mind because they are very well balanced for point cost and what they do. Their power levels and they aren't necessarily reliant on other models to function at maximum capacity. They are the All Stars in the Bayou, but we're not talking about them today. For this article I want to look at the top of the bottom. To quote Mystery Men "we're the other guys." Moon Shinobi  Alright. These dudes are Tri Chi.  So lets cover their strengths shall we? 6 stones is a fairly low cost. Stealth is always good.6 movement! Drunken Strength made people playing versus Shen Long crew a few months back. Squeal trigger is always a plus. Two inch engagement range. They have a heal on a bonus action and in a single activation they can hand out not 1, not 2 but 4 different conditions with the right cards.  Are they

A League By Any Other Name

A Very Special Offer Hello fellow swamp denizens! This week we've got a special treat for you, today is the announcement of the Bayou Breakdown's first officially hosted online league!  Starting in just 2 weeks the Dead Summer 5 Round League will begin and its gonna be fun!  So as for the rules well its a bit of a different format. 1. Choose a faction 2. Choose 5 Keywords.  3. You cannot play a master from those keywords more than once during the league.  4. No OOK master hiring or DMH.  5. The league will be standard Swiss Pairings.  6. Games will of course be played on Vassal. I'll pick a new map every week.  7. Scheme pools for each round are revealed prior to the event to help you choose your keywords.  8. I will be attempting to rustle up some prize support, at the very least you'll get some internet kudos and social distancing high fives.  So Why The Alt Format? I wanted to try something new, we play the standard pick faction, blah blah blah a lot and this might b

Budget Bayou

Introduction Welcome back to the Bayou. This week, let's talk to everyone looking to start playing in the swamps. In an ideal world, you'd want to buy all of the boxes that are out there, right? Well that isn't always possible so I'm going to try and break down the best boxes for starting Bayou and how to build on them to create good lists for games but not bust your wallet. Core Boxes In the world of Malifaux, Core boxes are always the place to start. Some are a bit more tricky than others though when it comes to value per dollar.  The 3 best boxes right off the gate belong to Mah, Zipp and 2e Ophelia box. Mah Tucket's box gives you bushwhackers and Trixie. Strong models and bushwhackers are one of the few minions you can take 3 of and still feel pretty good about it. Zipp gives you The First Mate, arguably one of the better models in the faction, and Iron Skeeters, another strong minion with Fly with Me and Concealment At the time I'm writing this, Ophelia'

Pool Party

The Premise This week I thought I'd break down for you how I go through the process of picking a crew for a specific keyword. I'm going to lay out the scheme pool, show you the board and even pick an opponent's faction to talk about what my choices are going to be and where the big decision points are. The Pool For this pool we are doing: Corner Deployment Symbols of Authority Leave  Your Mark Breakthrough Vendetta Take Prisoner Catch and Release This is the map I'm using my opponent has declared Ressers Keyword! We have tons of information here. First thing we look at is the Deployment Strategy combo. Corner means that the Symbols have a lot of space to spread out. Movement is going to be key. Symbols, Breakthrough and Leave Your Mark are interact heavy so someone who's efficent in that aspect is important as well. My first thought goes to who doesn't do what I need. Tri Chi is generally too slow, they make it to the mid line and stay there for the most part.
